Iligan City is known to be the City of Waterfalls as it boasts more than 20 waterfalls. The most popular is the Maria Cristina Falls. Another waterfall that catches the eye of many for its pristine waters that is good for swimming all year round. It is now becoming popular, the TINAGO FALLS. This is simply a Tinago Falls Travel Guide
Tinago Falls location is in Barangay Ditucalan, Iligan City but it is much accessible via Barangay Buru-un, Iligan City. From the city center, you may ride the jeepney with routes going to Buru-un and Linamon. Barangay Buru-un is quite far from the city center as it is the boundary of Iligan City and the province of Lanao del Norte.
Upon reaching Buru-un, there is a road on the left going to the mountain, which the junction is going to Tinago Falls. Single motorcycle as popularly known as “habal-habal” has its terminal there. Approach any driver and ask who can take you to the entrance of Tinago Falls. Fare depends on the negotiations with the driver. Sometimes you will be paying the whole trip or wait for other passengers to go with.
When at the entrance of Tinago Falls, you will be going to register and secure a guide. No standard rate for the guide, it’s up to you how much you will be giving. In our case, we give Php 150 each for a short period of time. They carry our things, watch it over and take photos of us.
There are more than 300 steps going down the waterfalls so you need to prepare yourself when coming up. Going down is easy, coupled with a bit of excitement; you will not notice that you’re already at the swimming area.
Always be careful in walking thru watery areas because it’s slippery. Exercise caution since there are lots of rocks around. At the registration area, you have an option for a ride at the raft at an additional Php 10 each. It includes life vest rentals. The raft will go to the falls itself by simply pulling the ropes and you need to participate so might as well prepare for the adventure.
There are cottages in the area with a minimal fee. You may bring your food, secure your belongings and have a place while at Tinago Falls.
Going back to the city, there is habal-habal at the registration area. You have to hail them back to the highway in Buru-un. Then take a jeep back to the city.
Iligan City is very accessible via Laguindingan Airport. Several flights of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are scheduled there. For boats, 2Go Travel has regular routes to Iligan City via Ozamiz City.
Neighboring airports of Ozamiz City and Pagadian City can also be an access to Iligan City but one must consider an approximately 2-4 hours travel time. They only have morning flights so it is pretty much a guarantee to arrive in Iligan in the afternoon.

Food choices are abundant also in Iligan. Delecta, Madelicious, Tita Fanny’s and popular food chains like Jollibee, McDo, Chowking, Greenwich and others are also available for you. There are other barbeque areas at the city proper, it’s safe and clean so no worries. Some restaurants offer Halal food so you also have a choice.
Land transportation in Iligan is not a problem. City proper alone have 24/7 access to public transport. More during daytime and fewer at night. Iligan City has 24-hour bus access to Cagayan de Oro via Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc. and Super Five Transport. The RTMI also offers 24-hr route in going as far as Zamboanga City.
