We are in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar a day before the visit to Mount Samat. On our way back to Manila from Bagac, Bataan, we (Meong, Larry and I) make a stopover at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mount Samat. From afar, seems like the monument is near yet it’s quite far. We drive directly to the entrance gates of the Shrine in the afternoon of December 13, 2015.
Near the entrance gate is a parking area where I leave the car. We just walk towards the shrine. The shrine is up the hill several meters high from the designated parking area. We pass by the monument before starting to climb the access walkway towards the cross. We stop for some photo opportunities having the cross as the background. It also has a panoramic view of Bataan and Manila Bay.
We walk to the access walkway towards the Cross; it is all assault and quite tiring. However, the view is spectacular. It is almost 5pm so we immediately decide to queue on the elevator going to the viewing deck. The cross also serves as the viewing deck. It is higher than we expect and it’s cool up there. We get to have a good view of Bataan from Manila Bay and Bataan at the West Philippine Sea side.
We just have a quick visit at the shrine and we don’t get a chance to visit the museum since it’s already close when we go down from the viewing deck. Even for a short stay at the shrine, we enjoy the place.
