On February 2, 1998, Cebu Pacific Flight 387 doomed at Mt Sumagaya in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The flight is enroute to Lumbia Airport, Cagayan del Oro City coming from Manila. Most of its passengers are also from the nearby provinces of Cagayan de Oro City.
As the crash site is at the top of the mountain, Cebu Pacific also builds a monument at the base of the mountain just beside the provincial highway in honor to the passengers and crews on board. Now being reachable to relative, friends and visitor who wish to pay respect to their loved ones.
During our trip, the original plan is not to take the Villanueva – Gingoog City route via Claveria. Our friend suggests the route in order for us to save on travel time and traffic also. From Villanueva, the roads are concrete and smooth all throughout.
The site is several kilometers from Claveria but just right beside the highway. We have a quick stopover at the monument. Seems like no one is maintaining the place for now. We are also looking for the names, none was there. We just have a quick photo ops then we left the place heading our way to Gingoog City.
