Mabinay, Negros Oriental is earn a “Cave Town” label because of its more than 400 caves on the record. Few caves are already in exploration including the second longest cave system in the Philippines, the Odloman Cave. Hardcore cave are open only to  mountaineers with enough experiences and that they will eventually undergo a 3-4 days training before giving them a clearance for caving. There are also three caves open for beginners; Pagligawan Cave, Pandalihan Cave and Crystal Cave.

Mabinay is accessible either from Dumaguete City or Bacolod City. From Dumaguete City, take a bus bound for Bacolod City via Mabinay. Before reaching the center of town, you may pass at the entrance of the Bulwang Caves. Its location is just beside the highway. Ask the driver or conductor to drop you off the entrance of the cave. Travel time will be at least 2 hours depending on the traffic. Air-conditioned buses are available depending on the schedule of the bus company.

When taking a bus from Bacolod City, Bulwang Cave will be after the Mabinay town. You can take a tricycle from the town; travel time will be approximately 30 minutes. Fare is depending on the negotiations you’ve agreed. Or you may continue riding the bus and drop at the entrance of the cave.

If you are bringing with you your car, the location is just along the main highway, on the left side if you’re from Dumaguete and on the right if you’re from Bacolod. There is also a parking space available in front of the office and it is safe to park there.

At the tourism information office, you will register and pay for the respective fees. They will provide you with helmets and headlamps. If you bring lots of things, you may also leave it there. They also serve food and snacks if don’t have any.

What to bring:

  • Since you’ll go caving, please don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes, shoes/sandals and leggings or pants. Shorts will do depending on you.
  • It is important to bring insect repellents because you are going to an area where they like to live.
  • You are into walking so you must have to bring water to drink when thirsty.
  • It is optional to bring extra flashlights since they will be provide you with headlamps.
  • Most important is your camera. A good camera with a flash will most likely give you the best capture of the gems inside the cave.
  • Bring extra clothes to tidy up after the sweaty caving adventure.
