Burias Tinalisayan Sandbar

MASBATE… Cruising along Burias Group of Islands

I was invited by my friend Gracia to come with them to Burias. Since it was in my bucket list, I am interested to join. However, I need to arrange my schedule in order to adjust the two conflicting events. Fortunately, Gracia find a way to help me out so I can join them in Burias.

We left Makati City at 10pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 heading for San Andres, Quezon Province. It should be a seven to eight hours drive, unfortunately our driver Jeff went the wrong way. He went straight to San Francisco and made a traverse up the mountains on a narrow unpaved roads going to San Andres. Travel time took so long because of the road conditions; it was an added adventure on us.

We arrived San Andres at 8 am and went immediately to the public market to buy some foodstuffs. After which, we went directly to the port for our boat and manifest. After completing the registrations and clearances, we changed into our swimming outfits. Now we’re ready to board our boat.

Immediately after boarding, we left the Port of San Andres and cruise our way towards Burias Group of Islands. It’s an hour or more travel by boat to reach the first island yet we’re heading to the farthest island of Burias, which is the Animasola Island. It took us almost 2 hours to get there.

One feature of Animasola Island was the beautiful Animasola Rock Formation. It’s a nice small rock formation on the side of the Animasola Island. Check out the link for my Animasola Rock Formation experience here.

An hour travel difference from Animasola Island is our second destination. Along the way, there are sightings of dolphins. Fishermen also are there that we check their catch and eventually we buy some. The Tinalisayan sandbar is comprised of pebbles and corals and if seen from Tinalisayan Island, it’s a tadpole shape. Check this out here.

After spending our afternoon at Tinalisayan Sandbar, we proceed straight to Sombrero Island where we will be setting up our camp. We’ll be spending the night there using our tents and hammocks. I brought my own tent and pitched it at beachfront.

Burias Island 1 2Gracia cooked a very sumptuous dinner for us, while Nenya and I did the grilling of the fishes we bought from the fisherman. After dinner, we opened our Empi lights and drank till finished. We had a good night sleep at Sombrero Island. I planned to take photos of the Milky Way yet it’s cloudy. Sad!!!

In the morning, we had pasta for breakfast. While Gracia was preparing the sinigang for lunch, we had a quick dip at the beach of Sombrero Island. Our boatmen caught some small fishes on the shore, oh well, we freed them after. Not quite a while, we packed our things and arranged it on the boat then. We’re leaving for our last island in the Burias Group of Islands, the Dapa Island or also known as Snake Island.

In less than 1 hour, we arrived Snake Island. From the name itself, according to our boatmen, there were plenty of sea snakes in the area. However during summer, sea snakes fled due to tourists flocking the area. Though there are still some of them present in the area, just stay away from them and don’t harm them. Check out what we did in Snake Island here.

After spending an hour at the island, we left towards San Andres for Alibijaban Island. Along the way, we saw a big sea turtle. We circled our way heading to the turtle floating, when we got near, it swam away. At least, we had a chance of seeing a beautiful one of its kind sea creature.

Overall, we enjoyed our trip to Burias Group of Islands. There were lots of adventures and sightings. I am thankful to Gracia for inviting me. I am also thankful to the group for being so friendly. Thanks to Nenya, my drinking buddy that time. lol

Cheers to our next adventure!

    1. Yes this is an overnyt trip only but we left San Andres in the morning. I am just a joiner to this activity and I shared Php2,700 for this all-in.
