When my welcome service guide in Cusco asked me if I want to watch a show, at first I am hesitant. I don’t know what kind of show is that. It was not introduced to me by my contact at the agency. Then he shows me the brochure. I became excited when I read that a show was a typical Peruvian entertainment featuring Peruvian music and dances. And what I liked most was the buffet dinner featuring Peruvian food too.
I immediately agreed and booked for a show. He instructed me that after my afternoon tour, I would just have to ask my guide to drop me at Plaza de Armas. The building was located in front of the plaza; it’s in the second floor. If I cannot find the place, I can ask anybody from the shops and they will lead me there.
After my afternoon tour, I asked my guide to drop me at Plaza de Armas. When we reached Cusco, she dropped me around the corner and was so kind to teach me how to go back to my hotel on my own.
I was walking along one side of the Plaza, checking for some souvenirs while looking for Tunupa. After checking on some shops, I passed by the entrance of Tunupa and I asked the guy what time they will be open. He told me to come back at 7pm, so I continued checking for some souvenirs.
At 7PM, I went back at the entrance and the guy accompanied me upstairs. At first, he thought I didn’t have any reservations yet when I mentioned that I am the guest of Viajes Pacifico, he then directed me to my table. It was a table for two right in front of the stage. I am very impressed on the arrangement, I got the premier seat of the show and the buffet table was at my back.
I relaxed a bit; it was good that I’m already at the inside because it was getting cold outside. One waiter came and asked me some drinks; I am hesitant to order Pisco Sour because I have tours the following day so I just asked water. Then he told me I can start eating.
What I liked most was I am the first guest. I am the first to start the buffet. There was wide variety of food choices. For a start, I took green salad, and ceviche. I love the ceviche a lot. I came back several times for it. There was barbecue as well. Menus include alpaca’s meat and it was delicious. While I was eating, some of the other guests arrived. They’ve started eating as well.
The band also came and setup their instruments. When almost all the tables were seated, the band started to play a Peruvian music, some of the guests were I guess from neighboring countries as they can relate to the music. It sounds nice and entertaining though. After several pieces played, the dancers came along and entertained us with their Peruvian dance. It was lovely.
I was thankful I was introduced to this dinner show. Since I didn’t have chance to see Peru’s festivals, this show was a good introduction to their culture as well. Hearing lively Peruvian music and seeing dancers gracefully interpreting the tune was amazing. The dinner show was one great package.
While entertainment was on-going, I cannot stop myself from eating as well, maybe due to lots of walking during my afternoon tour and having only hamburger as my lunch! They served fresh fruits. The dessert was delicious too. This really made my day special.
After the show, I stopped at the Starbucks coffee shop to buy some mini mugs. I wanted to stay longer at the coffee shop yet I needed to get back to my hotel and pack my things for the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu escape in the next three days. So I decided to hail a taxi back to my hotel.
