Upon hearing the word Fish Cage, I am thinking of a typical fish pens and on top of it are small cottages to accommodate guests. I also wonder how deep the water is to have a floating fish cage. Until I try to browse the Internet on that so-called Fish Cage and Sand Bars. Surprisingly, it’s like an cottage on a sandbar where they utilize the cottage for accommodations and restaurant while beneath the cottage is a fish cage. Guests can also rent fishing rods to catch fish from the cage.
Actually, I just don’t have a hint on these floating restaurants in Hinatuan. My friends are reading what-to-dos and they come across this. After witnessing the fish feeding at the Enchanted River, we immediately walk towards the boat station going to the floating cottages. The information desk informs guests on the charges and they are also responsible for the deployment of boats. Charges starts at Php 300/hr for 5 persons.
Since it’s already lunchtime, we immediately hop on to our boat going to the Fish Cage. It’s a 15 to 20 minutes boat ride. Upon arrival at the cottage, they are collecting entrance fees at Php 20/person regardless of just visiting or dining at the place.
Before we ordered our food, cottage attendants showed us the cage for stingrays. They are also feeding the rays and allows us to touch and feed them too. It excites me to be able to see it close to my eyes. I let my friends do the feeding first while I am busy taking photos of them. Then we change places and I am doing the feeding and trying to touch the stingrays. The attendant tells us that the rays no longer have a sting that’s why it’s safe to touch them. It is even safe to swim with them. I am amazed on the experience on the stingray encounter.
We initially plan to rent a fishing rod and try to fish for our food. Since its already past 12 noon, we cannot wait to get a catch for us to have food for lunch. They have also food to order, they will cook it accordingly. So we ordered “malasugi” and ask them to cook it in three ways, “sutukil” or “sugba / tula / kilaw”.
Not to forget our first plan, we still rent a fishing rod and try to do fishing at the cage. It is again another amazing experience seeing the fish eating our baits. However, we also don’t have any talent to fish on our own, we didn’t catch any by ourselves. One local shows us his way of fishing and it’s amazing how he’s doing it. We have 2 additional fishes for grilling. Actually not our catch yet we are happy pulling it from the cage.
Lunch is served and it was deliciously prepared. We finished the tinola and kinilaw while having leftovers for our sinugba. We also have enjoyed the place. The ambiance is cool, we have our cottage on one side of the cage and what a surprise to witness sardines swimming around the area.
Some of our leftover foods are packed including the 2 additional catch. We will just have it for dinner. We left the place after 2 hours and it’s already low tide. The sandbar is already appearing and some guests are actually enjoying it.
We are back at the Enchanted River and we have a quick swim before we finally decide to leave the place for Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City.
