ILOILO… Isla de Gigantes Wandering Part 3

These are our Gigantes Day 3 activities. Day 2 can also be read with the link below.

Part 2… continuation

First, there is no wake up call for us since we only have our activity at Antonia Beach. Second, there is no pressure on our itinerary, we are already okay with the highlights. Third, we will leave the island after lunch, thus our itinerary will also be a relaxing one. Finally, we still have a long way to travel so we also must have to save energy.

There is another option for our island hopping tour and it is the lighthouse. But as Ryan and the boatman observe, we still have rough seas on the other side of the island. Instead, we just opt to do caving at Antonia Beach. While initially we are also set to leave Isla de Gigantes at 3pm, we have enough time to prepare for departure. We also decide to have an early lunch so we can leave the island latest 1pm to arrive Iloilo City by 5pm.

As usual, coffee first thing in the morning although I am not a coffee drinker. After a while, breakfast is also ready. We have delicious dried fish, scrambled egg and fried rice enough to fuel our morning activity. A good laugh at breakfast also adds energy to us.

After eating our breakfast, we immediately prepare ourselves for the caving activity. Gear up, also bring our gadgets and off we climb the wooden ladder access to the entrance of the cave.

There are 2 caves in the area. One cave is just near the beach. Also, its primary access is at the beach itself. The other one is the cave near the house. Its location is up the mountain and higher than the cave near the beach. As per the locals, that cave also saves them from the disastrous super typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Oh well, we are going to explore the cave near the beach only.

You may notice several formations inside the cave, sad to say it’s already dead. Or maybe shall we say it is also 1% alive. It is just a short cave which traverses to the other side of the mountain. Not also that hardcore activity but we need to do some acrobatic crawlings on some small access to certain chambers. Although there are  bigger formations inside yet we don’t exactly know the reason how it dies. I also notice some big openings on its ceilings leading the roots of the plants to come and grow inside. The end of the cave is a huge opening leading directly to the sea. However, we also need to do the cliff dive if we want to swim. Lol.

We are also doing a round trip cave exploration and it is so enjoyable. The whole caving activity takes us approximately approximately 2 hours to finish. That 2 hours of exploration seems like short, an indication that we are also enjoying it. Afterwards, we have a quick dip onto the beach while waiting for the queue on the restroom to rinse and refresh.

While all of us are busy packing our things, I am reminding Ryan to arrange our early lunch so we can leave early as well. Then, our lunch is ready before 12 noon. They are really not missing to serve us fresh seafoods. New batch of “wasay wasay” are also in our menu. Another sumptuous food for us to remember our great island adventure at Islas de Gigantes.

In line with our schedule, we also leave the island at 1pm and arrive in Iloilo City at 5pm. It is still early and we still have time to buy some pasalubongs. We walk towards Merci Pasalubong Center to buy some Iloilo delicacies. Since my mom and aunt are in schedule to leave Iloilo on the next day, I also book an accommodation for them at Go Hotel Iloilo. Since the hotel is also near the Pasalubong Center, we just leave our bags there. After buying pasalubong, we are back at the hotel to get our things. Finally, we are off to the airport.

We really have a wonderful weekend at Isla de Gigantes. I personally thank our trip organizer, The Gigantes Experience, for letting us experience Isla de Gigantes. As one group, we also have a wonderful bonding moment. Maybe because we are out from the hassle and bustle of city life coupled with the poor mobile network coverage. Also, it really is a simple way of escaping from our busy lives. After each activity, we just keep our phones away and just enjoy chatting with each other.
