One of the hidden gems of Negros Oriental is the Niludhan Falls. Its location is in Barangay Dawis, Bayawan City and it is also 43 kilometers from the center of Mabinay. It is accessible from both via the provincial road connecting Mabinay and Bayawan.
Since we have an earlier activity at Bulwang Caves, we just have a side trip to Niludhan Falls. From Bulwang Cave Office, we take a tricycle going to crossing Paniabonan. We ask our driver to drop us there. It is also a short ride anyway.
It is about lunchtime when we finish caving so we decide to look for a restaurant. Our cave guide tells us that there are lots of carenderias at crossing Paniabonan. So we also decide to take our lunch at the junction. They have good food at an affordable price.
While choosing for food, I ask the owner where we can contact a single motorcycle that will take us to Niludhan Falls. She tells us to eat first and she’ll take care of it. We also have a very good lunch then. While eating, one of the drivers comes to us and negotiates for the trip. After a quick negotiations, we finally agree to pay 2 single motorcycles for Php 900 round trip. They will have to take us to the falls and wait for us there. They ask if we are going to swim but we are not since it’s already afternoon and we still need to go back to Dumaguete.
We’re done eating, pay our bills and off we go. We ride the motorcycle not minding the heat of the sun and braving the approximately 40 minutes ride. The roads are concrete though several kilometers are rough specially the one’s near the waterfalls. The view also is beautiful. We’re passing along the sugarcane plantations, some are already harvested, and others are just newly grown.
We pass by a submarine bridge. A few meters after, we turn right to a small road going down. The drivers tells us we will stop there and just walk towards the falls. A 5-minute walk downwards, passing thru a paved walkway will lead us to the stunning waterfalls.
I am in awe when I first have a glimpse of the waterfalls. Wow, it feels like heaven. Then I suddenly imagine that the river we are crossing above is the waterfalls itself.
To describe the waterfalls, is like a curtain. When you come to look at it, it’s like fine white threads hanging. The water is inviting, I feel like swimming at it, yet there are no lifeguards. We only have limited time, no choice but only to feast ourselves with the majestic view. The waterfall is really beautiful. No wonder it is one of the gems of Negros Oriental.
After spending some minutes at the falls, we decide to go back to Paniabonan. We’re back at our motorcycle journey. We have fun at the falls; we also have fun at our transport. At the restaurant where we have our lunch, we order an ice cold soft drink to quench our thirst before riding the bus going back to Dumaguete.
