The last stop of the day before driving back to Basco was at San Carlos Borromero Church. It’s also known as Mahatao Church. It is a Roman Catholic Church located at the town proper of Mahatao.
As per history, the first Church was built in 1787. Throughout the time, continuous remodeling and renovation works that made the church what it is today. It became a National Cultural Treasure in 2001.
It was a beautiful church painted in white on the outside. It had a grand architectural design also on the inside.
An added bonus to the beauty of the location was the Old Spanish Mahatao Lighthouse. Honestly, if our guide didn’t tell us about the structure, I would say it’s odd to have it there.
When she told us the significance of the structure, I totally understand why it was still standing there. What I may suggest was to make an emphasis on this lighthouse, a true aid to the local fishermen at night.
It was a simple structure where the locals will only put lights at night. It was truly a treasure to the place and thanks that they have put a value on it.
