After all those breath-taking sceneries we have visited, it’s time for us to energize for the afternoon’s event. Lucky for us, it’s Brgy. San Joaquin’s fiesta.
Ate Remy asked us if we want to go to a fiesta. Since we wanted to experience more of Batanes, we immediately agreed. We come to taste Batanes’ delicacies! It’s an opportunity for us to attend a fiesta celebration in Batanes to better understand and know more of their culture.
We visited Ate Remy’s friend. We were very fortunate to be their first visitors and we’re being welcomed with a very warm smile. Upon arrival, the table is already set outside the house because ate Remy informed them that we’re coming.
The food is ready too, smells so good, and looks so delicious. It’s our first time to use bread leaf (leaf of the breadfruit) as our plates. They served us with some Batanes delicacies like Yellow Turmeric rice, meatballs (I forgot the name, made of one part of banana mixed with shrimps and etc.) UBER delicious, who would forget the kare-kare and the buko pandan.
It was a sumptuous lunch. For a first meal in Batanes, our lunch really introduced us to the ingenuity of the Ivatans. I used to have banana leaves as a plate in our province, yet in Batanes, they were using bread leaf.
We were really thankful for the food and hospitality. We were also thankful we’ve experienced how fiesta was celebrated.
