One of the attractions and also a must-visit place in Pangasinan is the Hundred Islands National Park. Composing of 123 islands, it is one of the tourist destinations outside Manila. Hundred Islands is located in Alaminos City, Pangasinan. A 5-6 hours drive from Manila, the jump-off of Hundred Islands is in Lucap Port in Alaminos City.
From Manila, we arrive in Lucap Port at 2pm. The port changes a lot since my last visit in 2008. It is also a lot bigger now with an activity area near the bay area. After parking the car, we immediately visit the Tourism Center to pay for the respective fees. Then we walk towards the Boat Station for our boat assignment.
Before we embark our boat, some photo opportunities at the Hundred Islands Arch at the port. Just a walking distance, our boatman also positions his boat to the most accessible way for us to board. And off we go to the islands.
Boat ride from the port to Hundred Islands will approximately take at least 30 minutes to reach the first island. First, we have to stop at Governor’s Island. They have a viewing deck on top of the island. At the viewing deck, you may be able to see 360 degrees view of the whole Hundred Islands National Park.
At the Governor’s Island, they also add Zipline to its activity aside from the normal swim and visit at the Island. The zipline traverses from Governor’s Island to the other island in front of it. The two islands are also connected using the floating bridge. Oh by the way, the PBB house is still up the island.
We have only one stop at Hundred Islands and it’s at the Governor’s Island. After roaming around Governor’s Island, we also instruct our boatman to just take us around some other islands. We don’t need to park, just have our boat pass.
Our boatman drives us north to other islands. The first one is the Romulo Island. Also, one feature of the Romulo Island is that it was the venue for the Teleserye “Marina” featuring a Mermaid Kingdom.
Near the Romulo Island, Crocodile Island and Turtle Island are clearly seen. They are also named after the formations they resemble. Crocodile Island as seen from Romulo Island is like a baby crocodile while Turtle Island also looks like a turtle seen from the same angle. Though all of those comprises only of rocks and plants.
Going to the northern part of the Hundred Islands, we also happen to pass by Marcos Island. Next Island is further north. Almost in the open sea now, we have a glimpse at the Cathedral Cave. We only have a quick pass in front of the cave since the waves are also getting bigger.
Near the Cathedral Cave is the known Quezon Island. This island is for the visitors who are into water activities. They do have banana boat rides, parasailing, snorkeling and other water activities.
The last island is the Children’s Island. This island has shallow portions that everyone can enjoy swimming. It is also like a mini-sandbar connecting two islands. They also have cottages built on the islands.
Since it’s getting dark, we need to get back to Lucap Port so we can prepare for our forward journey to Bolinao. While cruising, we are also lucky to experience a very nice sunset on the boat. We arrive at the port at 6pm, and then quickly buy some souvenirs before heading back to the parking area. Finally, we left Lucap Port at almost 7pm for Bolinao, Pangasinan.
