As per history, in the 17th century, Spanish claimed Batanes as part of the Philippines, that later drove away British power in the island. Spanish introduced several methods and techniques, and one of these was the use of lime technology.

There is no cement during their time. With the application of this lime technology they have constructed a very strong bridge that until now was perfectly standing and still in use.

This lime technology was not only applied in building bridges. Ivatan also built their houses using this technology. In the area of Ivana alone, lots of ancient structures can be traced with using these methods.
