BATANES… Dinner at Pension Ivatan

To end our DAY 1 activity…

A walk back from Naidi Lighthouse, we went our way towards the airport and reached Pension Ivatan at almost 7pm. Pension Ivatan is located very near to Basco Airport.

Along the way, we enjoyed mingling with kids who were playing on the road. Sari-sari stores were everywhere; some were selling fruits so we bought bananas and ate it as we walked along. While walking on one street, we found a barbecue vendor. We were enticed to have a taste so we bought some. It was delicious!

Basco doesn’t have street lights that time and it’s getting darker. Oh well, we felt safe in going to Pension Ivatan. While walking, we’ve known that Basco is one of the safest places in the Philippines with zero crime rates.

Finally, after hiking in the dark, we reached the restaurant, we immediately ordered Ivatan Platter. Ivatan platter was recommended to some other blogs and a must-try when in Batanes.

This Ivatan Platter offers a wide variety of Batanes delicacies all in one platter that is good for six persons. As per recommendations from TripAdvisor and other blogs, a must-try in Batanes is Coconut Crab. It has a unique flavor in which you can taste the richness of what’s inside the shell.

While waiting for our order, the decorations of Pension Ivatan were the native rain/sun protectors. We never missed the opportunity to try it and took pictures with it.

We tried to ask the restaurant if they have live coconut crabs inside and the attendant said yes. We asked her to bring us a live coconut crab so we can take picture of it. We’re thankful for the opportunity of seeing it live. This  creature is so abundant in Batanes.

We had a very good dinner. The food was no longer surprising to us since we had several of them during our lunch at the fiesta such as the turmeric rice and the meatballs. The very good addition was the “pako” salad, the coconut crabs and the lobster.  We only paid around Php 1,500.00 for this sumptuous dinner. So yum!

We walked directly to our hotel after dinner since we’ve known no nightlife in Basco. We called it a day at 9pm after having drinks at our hotel for a sound sleep and be ready for the next day’s adventure.
