Why is Travel Insurance important?

When we first think of travel insurance is just an additional cost to us. I myself oftentimes travel without it, mostly in my domestic routes. I am not saying that you too must not avail of it. It’s basically the choice of the traveler.

Let me explain why I am not availing for travel insurance in most of my domestic routes. Simply because of the insurance coverage they are offering. Not to discourage but for me, the cost I am paying for is not that worth it. Yet I want to encourage everybody to avail travel insurance depending on your needs and convenience.

When you travel outside the country, I greatly encourage everybody to have travel insurance protection. Not just the travel insurance by the airline, you must avail of insurance from a third party. Usually, insurance from the airline company covers only your flight schedule and other services.

There are different types of traveler. Those who travel for work and some who travel for vacation. Not to confuse, I am talking of travel insurance during vacation.

As a traveler, we are prone to risk. We travel for leisure and pleasure so might as well we will travel worry-free. Travel insurance will only be a very small portion of your cost but it will serve as your protection. Travel insurance usually covers medical expenses, repatriation expenses, accident insurance, flight delays, lost luggage and other services.

When I travel abroad, I always have an insurance specifically covering my travel days. What’s important in travel insurance is the coverage for the medical expenses and repatriation. Most activities during the tours involve outdoors so we are prone to risks and accidents. In an unlikely event, we have protection with the insurance coverage.

For me, having this can add to a stress-free travel. You’ll feel safe and secure. For me, it’s important to have the travel insurance covering medical expenses and repatriation. Because when out of the country, we may never know the cost of hospitalization. Let’s face it, most of the hospitals ask for an insurance coverage of the patient. Their purpose is to also know the extent of treatments they will be extending.

We are not praying for all of this to happen. Yet certainly we do not know if this will happen or not. At least we are prepared if it will unfortunately happen at a wrong timing and during your vacation.

Again, this is not compulsory. It totally depends on the person traveling. Piece of advice, if you have a budget for your travel, please include travel insurance in your budget.
